Science Fair

Santa Susana High School Science Fair entrants and award winners will show their entries at Open House on Wednesday, February 6. Come see the amazing work done by SSHS students and wish them well in the Ventura County Tournament.

Our 2nd Annual Swing Night!

Looking for Quilt makers to help sew and put together a quilt being designed by Mrs. Hazlewood's Geometry Classes. Please email Mrs. Hazlewood at karen.hazlewood@simivalleyusd.org. Also, please contact Mrs. Hazlewood, if would you be interested or willing to have a booth in the STEAM EXPO to introduce quilting.

Children's Theatre Presents The Penny Dreadfuls
In the Black Box

The Penny Dreadfuls is a fast paced, darkly comic play reminiscent of Dickens' "Oliver Twist". The Penny Dreadfuls are orphans and runaways who spend their nights and days working for the dastardly Professor as pickpockets and thieves. But these smart children have got far more than mischief up their sleeves and, as in the Dickens' novel, all villains get their due!

Booster pre-sale for begins on Monday, January 28 in the student store. General sales begin in store and online on Friday, February 1. This performance is in the Black Box Theatre and seating is first come, first serve. VIP seats are being offered for $20 each and include a reserved seat in the first 4 rows plus 2 free concessions. VIP seats must be purchased in the student store and are not available for purchase the day of the performances.

Remaining ticket prices are as follows:

Choir and Instrumental Music Fundraiser

Choir and Instrumental music are having a fundraiser starting on Monday 1/28/2019. College and Career - Seniors
FAFSA
Seniors! Whether you are attending a 4-year or 2-year community college, or thinking of attending a vocational school, please make sure to apply for the FAFSA no later than March 2nd. Even if you don't think you will qualify, this is a way that colleges will consider you for need, merit, or other institutional aid and can help you qualify for the federal loans that generally have a better rate than the private loans you may need.

MOORPARK COMMUNITY COLLEGE PREVIEW DAY-FRIDAY, MARCH 1st: Field trip for to explore MPCC, create an education plan to help you graduate with your AA in 2 years, hear from a financial aid representative and engage with a student question and answer panel. MPCC is providing all students in attendance with lunch. Please see Mrs. Wigdor in the College & Career Center for forms-space is limited.
 College and Career - All Students
SAT Prep
Interested in SAT prep, but don't have the time after school or on weekends? Solution: one-hour prep on late start Fridays. SAT prep begins Friday March 1 (see attached flyer for schedule of classes). The classes are offered at a discounted rate of $369 and are run through Tried & True Tutoring on SSHS campus in the College & Career Center. The price includes materials and full-length mock SAT pre-and post-tests! There are a limited number of scholarships available for students who cannot afford the cost but want to attend.

MOORPARK CTE DAY (March 14, 2019)
Moorpark Community College is providing our students with an opportunity to explore CTE programs through presentations and hands-on activities. This program is open to all grade levels-spaces are limited to 20-25 students per site. Presentations will be available for a variety of programs, including:

Child Development
Environmental Science
Game Design
Hospitality(New!)
Kinesiology
Makerspace
Multimedia
Optical Technology
Outreach (campus tour)

 Counseling

PSAT Scores are in!
If you took the PSAT in October please stop by the counseling office, at lunch or after school, to pick up your score report.

PTSA The SSHS PTSA Nominating Committee is working on putting together the elected board for the 2019/20 school year. If you are interested in a position, please email sarah_horton99@yahoo.com. Please reply by Friday, February 1, 2019.

Elected Positions:
~President - Oversees all events and programs, runs meetings, appoints Parliamentarian and other chair positions as needed.
~1st VP of Programs - Organizes and/or oversees various school activities/events that the PTA sponsors each school year.
~2nd VP of Ways & Means - Organizes and/or oversees the main fundraising programs that PTA facilitates. (Direct Donation Drive/No Frills)
~3rd VP Membership - Handles Membership drive and membership related activities throughout the year.
~Secretary - Records and distributes minutes of all meetings and manages the Secretary Book.
~Treasurer - Handles all financial aspects related to PTA: pays bills, prepare budget, present reports at monthly meetings.
~Historian - Captures, assembles, and preserves record of activities and achievements of PTA. Collects volunteer hours for PTA meetings and events for reporting purposes.
~Auditor - Audits the financial records and submits for review twice a year.

Please join PTSA today and help support the programs, events and activities that SSHS PTSA provides. Membership is only $6 per person.  Please visit our website for more information and to sign up using a credit card. Remember, in order to qualify for PTSA Senior Graduate Scholarships, students must be a member for 2 years.
