Santa Susana High School - Monday Message

Food and Drink Deliveries Recently, students have begun ordering food and drink deliveries to school through apps such as "Uber Eats." When the food arrives, students have been receiving text messages to meet the drivers and collect their food. In other circumstances, unknown drivers come on to campus to deliver food to the main office.

In order to protect students from interacting with unknown individuals, to protect students' learning time, and to prevent random deliveries and individuals from coming on to campus, students may not order food or drinks to be delivered to campus by delivery services. Parents, however, are always welcome to deliver food to the main office for their child. If you do deliver food to the main office, please be sure that it is labeled with your child's name. Also, please let your child know before school that food will be awaiting them in the main office. While we do not want students leaving class to retrieve the food, they may collect it during passing periods or at lunch.

West Side Story/East Side Sharky's
Fundraiser and Show

On Saturday, March 10th "jet" over to "Sharky's" for lunch or dinner and our Theatre Dept. receives 20% back! Then, see West Side Story at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, where two of our SSHS theatre alumni are in the cast.

Tickets must be purchased through the Theatre Department by February 28th. See Attached Documents Folder below for informational flyer and ticket order form.

Senior Project

On March 16, 2018, Santa Susana High School will be having their first Comic Con! This will be held in the MPR from 5 - 8 P.M. We will be having a cosplay contest as well as a panel from members of the entertainment industry. Confirmed so far are:

  • Sound Director, Randy Coppinger
  • Lead Software Engineer of Overwatch, Bill Warnecke
  • Voice of Dr. Krieger of Archer, Lucky Yates
  • Pink Power Ranger, Catherine Sutherland

  • We will also be featuring projects from students 10th to 12th grade throughout the Convention.

    Applied Science Series  This year, SSHS will be hosting its first Applied Science Series to show case student achievements in the STEM field through research projects and presentations.
      There are four events:
    1. The Science Fair - January 23, 2018. **Completed**.
    2. Astronomy Night - April 16, 2018 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Astronomy Night will let students explore the field of astrophysics through direct viewing of the night sky with high-power telescopes.
    3. Med-X Speaker Symposium - March 17, 2018. The Med-X Speaker Symposium will feature presentations from future innovators who are using their education to change the field of medicine as well as a keynote speaker from the medical profession.
    4. STEAM Expo - April 20, 2018. STEAM Expo combines the arts and sciences to highlight the myriad of ways creativity can be applied to STEM.

    Biography In Context - database
    After reviewing some of the amazing resources found in our Testing and Education Resource Center database (2/12 & 2/19 Monday Message articles), we'd like to focus on another great SSHS database.

    Right now many junior students are working on a Biography assignment for their English class. Students are reading a biography and then researching the person's life and contributions to society. We have a phenomenal resource to help them with this assignment. SSHS subscribes to a database called Biography In Context. In this database, students have access to content, including: background information, news articles, recommended websites, videos, and academic journal articles on thousands of noteworthy people from the past and the present. The database provides a "one-stop shopping" approach to research. Students may access this resource for free with our school password susana.

    If you took the PSAT last October, and have not picked up your score report please pick it up in the Counseling Office by Friday, March 2nd.

    During ACE, the College and Career Center is hosting a variety of college planning workshops for 9th - 11th grade students. Topics include: Roadmap to College; Resumes; ACT vs SAT; How to approach Essays & Personal Statements; Open Sessions for Q & A, and more.     Community College Information Night
    This evening is for Juniors & Seniors: Wednesday, February 28 beginning at 6:30 PM at Royal High School's MPR. Representatives from Moorpark will be presenting on the admissions and registration process, financial aid, counseling, special programs, and more.

    Seniors! Whether you are attending a 4-year or 2-year community college, or thinking of attending a vocational school, please make sure to apply for the FAFSA no later than March 2nd. Even if you don't think you will qualify, this is a way that colleges will consider you for need, merit, or other institutional aid and can help you qualify for the federal loans that generally have a better rate than the private loans you may need.

    Tours include a full campus tour, presentation, and a Q&A session. Please see the attached flyers.

    Peer Tutoring Students at Santa Susana will be tutoring other students for free after school.

    Tutoring will take place from 3:00-4:00 in the following locations:
    Room 410 — Mondays and Tuesdays
    Room 408 — Wednesdays

    There is a math/science focus but all subjects are welcome including AP subjects.
    Peer tutors wanted! Earn volunteering hours!
     Mock Trial Fundraiser  Mock Trial is selling "World's Finest Chocolates " in Room 307. Come and get your chocolate (crisp, dark, milk, caramel, or almond) for $1/bar after school. The money goes to fund the Mock Trial competition held at the Ventura County Courthouse at the end of February. All chocolates are available while supplies last.
