 Happy Anniversary, Santa Su!

This Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11 we will be hosting a science fair, a hands-on STEAM Expo, a distinguished speaker series, an art show, and performances. These events are free to the community. Also, thank you to the YMCA, who will be barbecuing for us. Please support our school by joining us in the festivities!

  Astronomy Night

On Feburary 10, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm the Ventura County Astronomical Society is hosting an Astronomy Night on the basketball courts at SSHS . Viewers will be able to "experience a rare and subtle Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in the early evening." The VCAS volunteers will bring their own amazing high-powered telescopes. Be sure to ask questions and learn about our night sky!

 Distinguished Speaker Series

Dr. S. George Djorgovski, Caltech Professor of Astronomy and Co-Director of the Center for Advanced Computing Research, Director of the Center for Data-Driven Discovery, and Director of the Meta-Institute for Computational Astrophysics, will head the list of speakers scheduled for Santa Susana High School's 20th Anniversary Celebration weekend Saturday, February 11. The talk entitled "Astronomy in the Time Domain: From Killer Asteroids to Giant Black Holes," is scheduled for noon in the school's Performing Arts Center. Dr. Djorgovski is currently the author and co-author of several hundred scientific publications, covering the fields of astrophysics, cosmology, and computational science, and is a celebrated international speaker.

Also included in the day of speaker talks is Christine Reusch, an engineer representing Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's office, presenting a talk titled "Engineering and Creating a Sustainable Future." Mrs. Reusch is also a Board Member for the Society of Women Engineers, Ventura Chapter. The day, which features a number of other speakers, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professionals, school alumni, and senior student researchers, celebrates the school's 20 years with the general theme "What does Creativity look like in the STEM Fields.?"

All of the weekend's events are free to the community. Students, parents, and other community members are all invited to attend. Seats for the talks are limited and cannot be reserved in advance.

See the attached flier for the day's schedule.
